Avi’s Story

My MantraMat says: Acceptance of what is and Loving Kindness to all

Hi! Thank you for visiting our site. MantraDog started as a side passion project and flourished into what it is today. First of all what is a passion project? My name is Avi Gunzburg and for the first 10 years of my working adult life I owned and ran a very successful carpet and flooring company. During a visit to one of the carpet mills, the carpet mill founder was talking about how much he loved carpet and everything about it (mind you he was over 80 years old!). I realized during our conversations that I may not love carpet as much as he does (caution – understatement!) and then he said something I will never forget – “If you don’t love what you do, well, then you should close up shop and throw rocks at it.” At that moment I decided to look for my passion and start a passion project.

Let me back up a bit. If you are not primed to accept the wisdom that is presented to you then you won’t realize or use it when that wisdom hits you. Thank God I was primed for the wisdom of that carpet founder a few months prior to this trip. As I said I ran a very successful carpet and flooring company. In running a successful carpet and flooring company the days can get a little hectic and consuming (understatement alert #2!). As I was wont to do, I was heading away from the office to pick up my kids from an after school music class and I took some of the office home with me. I was making phone calls, texting at red lights, and very ungrounded and mindless. As I was driving a girl ran into the street and my car hit her. Maybe I could have been more mindful and seen her, maybe I was not able to have seen her before impact but I hit her none the less (Thank God – miraculously she is OK – a hairline fracture that healed within a couple of weeks from an impact of 35 miles an hour). That was the most sobering moment of my life and led to me to some really hard work and realizations. I realized that there is more to life than working as hard as I can at a business that was unfulfilling. I realized that there is a lot of personal growth that needed to happen. I realized that relationships are the only things in this life that are unreplaceable and everlasting. I realized I needed to drive in a mindful way and not be distracted (I swore I would never text and drive again). I used Yoga as a path to personal growth. I am using MantraDog to fulfill a business that has meaning. And I want to build as many meaningful relationships as I can during this journey of MantraDog and my journey of life.

In wrapping up this letter to all of you my new and existing dear friends, a passion project is one where you go on a journey to find a passion of yours. It can be a journey that lasts a minute, a year, a lifetime or any amount of time in between. It can be a personal journey, a journey of business, or a journey with a friend. The important part of the journey is that you stay mindful, open to acceptance and experience, and enjoy the journey. You may or may not find what you are looking for, but if you enjoy the journey then what is happening to you may be what you were looking for all along. Passion projects or passion journeys don’t always end or take the path you were expecting – and that is the whole point.

Please join us as we take our passion for yoga on this journey called life and experience all of it together.

With Love for yoga, Loyalty to our people, and Service to the world I remain Sincerely Yours,
Avi Gunzburg
